Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
GERD , also known as serious heartburn, occurs when stomach acid refluxes or splashes up into the esophagus. The severity of the heartburn will depend on the amount and duration of acid refluxed into the esophagus. Constant irritation can lead to inflammation, ulcers, and bleeding, among other complications.
